2 LP Gold Colored Vinyl – Limited Edition

The album “Antena – Camino del Sol“, released in 1982, is a unique work that combines elements of electronic music, bossa nova, jazz and pop. This project has become, over time, a cult record, appreciated by music lovers for its minimalist aesthetic, its soft and melancholic atmosphere, as well as for the singular vision it offers of electronic music in a period when the latter was just beginning to become democratized.

Antena is originally a French group, composed mainly of Isabelle Antena, with the help of Sylvain Fasy and Pascale Moiroud. Isabelle Antena, whose real name is Isabelle Powaga, is at the heart of the group’s musical creation. This trio was signed by the Belgian label Les Disques du Crépuscule, an emblematic record company originally associated with the label Factory Benelux, a branch of the label Factory records, known for its post-punk scene, home to such notable groups as Joy Division, New Order and The Durutti Column. The signing of this group, whose music nevertheless moved away from post-punk, reflects the artistic openness of the label.

From Camino Del Sol to The Boy From Ipanema, its Latin, bossa, jazz and funk vibes have enchanted fans around the world and remain chill-out staples in the collections of hip DJs, from Ibiza to Goa to New York

Although it didn’t achieve resounding commercial success upon its release, Camino del Sol has become a reference for those looking for sophisticated electronic music, far from the dance beats and more mainstream sounds that often dominate the genre.

Description

Antena – Camino Del Sol” is deeply influenced by various musical currents that make it a hybrid work, between electronic and acoustic. At that time, electronic music was timidly emerging in France, where artists like Jean-Michel Jarre and Serge Blenner were laying the foundations for an experimental approach to the genre. However, Antena takes a different path: rather than diving into complex and avant-garde electronic compositions, they subtly integrate elements of electronic music into largely acoustic and melodious pieces.

What is notable is the way in which the group fuses the suave rhythms of bossa nova, a musical style born in Brazil in the late 1950s, with synthetic and electronic sounds still uncommon in this musical genre. Isabelle Antena‘s soft and nonchalant voice reinforces this languid and almost meditative atmosphere, giving the album a resolutely chill tone even before this term was popularized. It is also this fusion of genres that distinguishes Camino del Sol from other electronic albums of the time. The project is located at the crossroads of several styles, making it difficult to categorize, but this is precisely what gives it such great richness and originality.

Released in a context where electronic music was still considered a niche reserved for insiders, Camino del Sol proved to be an avant-garde album. Antena was at the forefront of a movement that would grow much larger years later with the rise of chill-out or lounge electronic music in the 1990s and 2000s. Artists like Air, Thievery Corporation and Zero 7, who popularized this style, owe a lot to pioneering albums like Antena‘s.

The album ” Antena – Camino Del Sol ” opens with the eponymous track, “Camino del Sol”, which is arguably the most iconic song on the album. With its gentle rhythm and dreamy melody, it immediately captures the listener and transports them into a sunny and introspective universe. The subtle play of synthesizers, coupled with the guitar and discreet percussion, creates a soothing atmosphere. Isabelle’s voice floats lightly above the instrumentation, like a caress, and the lyrics evoke a feeling of travel, warmth, and fullness. The title invites you to wander through sound, to take a stroll through imaginary landscapes bathed in sunlight.
