After a wait of nearly nine years since his debut solo album “In Colour” in 2015, Jamie XX returned in 2024 with the album “In Waves“.
The album offers 12 captivating tracks that subtly explore the many facets of contemporary electronic music, but the deluxe edition goes even further by offering an enriched and in-depth experience.
This deluxe edition of “In Waves” was offered at the time of the album’s release for collectors and audiophiles. This limited edition includes three vinyl records: two LP records for optimal sound quality, as well as an additional 12-inch containing exclusive bonus tracks. Each vinyl has its own color: one black, one white, and a third vinyl split into two shades – black and white. Each of these records is adorned with a central label illustrated with psychedelic wave-like patterns. These hypnotic patterns, which seem almost in motion, recall the ripples of the sea or the vibrations of sound, establishing a powerful visual link with the title and the concept of the album.
The A side of In Waves is a particularly interesting section of the album, where Jamie xx explores and pays homage to the essence of House and UK Garage that was found in the late 80s, early 90s in the iconic clubs of the United Kingdom. Jamie xx, a true sonic alchemist, manages to capture this timeless energy while injecting a more current style and a modern production finesse. Tracks on side A, such as “Dadofi”, a track produced in collaboration with Panda Bear, demonstrate this balance between nostalgia and innovation.
The bonus tracks on this edition are no exception and bring a different perspective to the album. The track “F.U.”, featuring Erykah Badu, is a particularly striking addition. Badu’s iconic voice blends perfectly with Jamie xx’s sonic universe, adding a soulful and introspective dimension to this track.

After a 9-year absence, Jamie XX is back with an album “In Waves” also released in a box set “Jamie XX – In Waves Deluxe Edition” testifying to his artistic evolution and his commitment to the culture of electronic music.
Jamie XX, real name Jamie Smith, is a British musician and producer known for his work in the group The XX and for his solo projects.
The album opens with “Wanna”, an energetic track that sets the tone for the rest of the work. Notable collaborations include “Waited All Night” with Romy and Oliver Sim, his colleagues from The XX, as well as “Baddy On The Floor” featuring Honey Dijon. Other artists such as Panda Bear, The Avalanche, Kelsey Lu, John Glacier and Robyn also contribute, enriching the album’s sonic diversity.
The release of “In Waves” was accompanied by immersive events, including the creation of a pop-up club in London just before the album’s release, called “The Floor”, where Jamie XX hosted an exclusive listening party for the track “Baddy On The Floor”. This initiative reflects his desire to reconnect with the club culture that has deeply influenced his music, while offering a direct and intimate experience to his audience.
The deluxe edition of In Waves is not only distinguished by its musical content, but also by the originality and care taken in the design of its vinyls. The clear sleeve and the discs, decorated with minimalist patterns inspired by the curves of waves, highlight the deluxe edition, making them a focal point from the moment they are opened. The discs are pressed in a limited edition with special care.
