In 2006, as electronic music began looking increasingly toward the past, a Norwegian producer transformed old obsessions with disco, synths, and cosmic sounds into something new. His name: Hans-Peter Lindstrøm. His playground: Oslo, the club scene, analog machines, and—above all—his own label, Feedelity. It’s a Feedelity Affair, released in October 2006 by Smalltown Supersound, serves as a brilliant snapshot of that era. More than a traditional album, it is a compilation gathering eleven tracks from the various EPs Lindstrøm had released on his label, including “The Contemporary Fix,” a new track from 2006. It also features his famous “I Feel Space,” which became one of his most iconic tracks.
At first listen, the record seems to tell a simple story: the return of disco. But Lindstrøm never settles for merely replicating the formulas of the past. His music belongs to a genre that would soon be dubbed “space disco“—a blend of disco, Italo-disco, synth-pop, cosmic music, and psychedelic electronica. References to Giorgio Moroder, the golden age of electronic disco, and the futuristic sounds of the 1970s and 80s are evident, yet they never devolve into mere exercises in nostalgia. Lindstrøm’s music looks simultaneously toward the past and toward an imaginary galaxy. Lindstrøm is also considered a major figure in nu-disco—a broad term describing the contemporary reinterpretation of disco that emerged primarily in the 2000s.
Twenty years after its original 2006 release, Lindstrøm’s *It’s a Feedelity Affair* returns in 2026 as a special anniversary edition. This 20th Anniversary Edition marks a significant milestone in the album’s history, as it represents its very first official vinyl release. It is difficult to talk about It’s a Feedelity Affair without mentioning “I Feel Space”. The track is arguably the best introduction to the world of Lindstrøm. “I Feel Space” perfectly illustrates the connection between nu-disco and space disco. It combines the immediate pleasure of rhythm with a desire for experimentation and atmospheric construction.
The term space disco, or cosmic disco, is particularly well suited to his aesthetic. Synthesizers take center stage, melodies seem to float through space, and the tracks often favor a slow progression rather than a conventional succession of verses and choruses.
This fascination with space is particularly evident in “I Feel Space”, probably one of the most iconic tracks by Lindstrøm.
